Jam BKE, keep Woodlands road free
HEAVY traffic congestion around Woodlands Centre Road is almost a daily occurrence. Some time ago, heavy motorcycle traffic prompted the authorities to re-direct motorcycles to access Woodlands checkpoint via the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) only. The move was lauded by residents and businesses in the area.
Why not do the same with cars and private buses? By restricting Malaysia-bound traffic to the BKE and allowing only public buses and, more importantly, emergency services in Woodlands Centre Road, residents and businesses will benefit from 'free' traffic in the area.
It makes no difference to drivers prepared to endure a three-hour wait to travel to Malaysia whether their vehicles are on the BKE or any other road. So why must residents and businesses suffer? Heavy traffic congestion not only denies them 'free' passage but also hinders emergency services.
